City of Philadelphia Business Privilege License Information
A Business Privilege License is required for business conducted in Philadelphia.
Prerequisites:
- Pennsylvania State Sales and Use Tax Number
- Federal Employer Identification Number or, if you do not have employees and are a sole proprietor, a Social Security Number
- A Business Privilege Tax Account Number
The lifetime license fee is $300, made payable to the City of Philadelphia. Some businesses—such as out-of-state companies that do business in the City sporadically—may elect to pay a $50 annual fee.
To obtain a license:
- Apply for a tax account online
- Visit the Department of Licenses & Inspections at the Municipal Services Building, Public Concourse Level, 1401 John F. Kennedy Boulevard
- Call (215) 686-2490. If submitting this application by fax, you will be billed by the Department of Licenses and Inspections for the $300 fee.
