In June of 2009, Clear Channel Communication’s radio station: WDAS-FM 105.3, announced the cancellation of it’s hosting of the annual Unity Day event here in Philadelphia.
Unity Day, the largest outdoor event in the Country has been saved by a group of concerned citizens that could not let a 30 year Philadelphia tradition perish, so they formed “Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc.” which is now the official host for “Unity Day”.
On July 3rd, 2009, a new organization, “Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc.” filed application for the hosting of Unity Day with the City of Philadelphia and the Fairmount Park Commission.
Clear Channel Communication attempted to prevent Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc. from becoming the host of the event by claiming a Trademark Right Violation for the “Unity Day” name.
Unity Day on the Parkway, Inc. proved in the Court of Common Pleas, that it held the Trademark right that is inherent to it’s Corporate name.
